WORKSHOP SYNOPSIS:

When equipment is not running, it is not creating value for the organization. And when bottleneck equipment, the piece or pieces of equipment that constrain the process, are not running, the capacity lost is capacity lost forever. This is going to impact not only customers, but also the bottom line. One of the key areas to attack for downtime reduction is the time equipment is being changed over from one product to another. Set-Up Reduction techniques aim to minimize the time from last good piece of one product to the first good piece of the next. Our goal is to reduce the set-up time to single digits i.e. to less than 10 minutes. In this workshop, we will cover:

  • What is Set-Up Reduction?
  • Benefits of Set-Up Reduction
    • How much does downtime cost?
  • Eliminating waste in the changing over equipment
  • Rules for reducing the Set-Up time
  • Measuring and displaying Set-Up time
  • Steps to reduce Set-Up time
    • Define the process.
    • Capture background information.
    • Videotape and observe the changeover.
    • Analyze the videotape.
    • Identify changes.
    • Implement the changes.
    • Verify the changes work.
    • Transfer the knowledge.
