WORKSHOP SYNOPSIS:

Many businesses are expressing renewed interest in the cost of quality as they try to eliminate wasteful practices and become lean organizations. This workshop will stress the importance of cost of quality as a business performance metric. Students will learn how to measure and track cost of quality elements and relate them to the traditional corporate cost and price structure. Since quality costs are frequently incurred in the manufacturing supply chain, as well as in the design and distribution of services, this workshop is valuable for people working in either manufacturing or the service sector.

Topics:

  • Importance of cost of quality as a business performance measure
  • Quality costs in critical industries
  • Effect of modular assembly strategies on the cost of quality
  • Quantitative quality cost models
  • Graphical techniques to summarize and present cost of quality data
  • Integrating cost of quality into The Balanced Scorecard
  • Purchasing quality costs
  • Quality costs as random variables

These concepts will be reinforced with hands-on exercises designed to teach students how to handle and report data, estimate quality costs, and develop actionable plans based on the results.
